Cavity wall insulation works by filling the gap or cavity between the inner and outer walls of a property with insulating material. Here's how the process typically works:
-
Assessment: Before installation, a qualified technician will assess your property to determine its suitability for cavity wall insulation. They will inspect the type of walls you have (usually brick or block), the width of the cavity, and any existing insulation.
-
Preparation: On the day of installation, the technician will prepare the property by drilling small holes, usually around 22mm in diameter, at regular intervals along the outer wall. These holes are strategically placed to access the cavity space between the walls.
-
Insulation Material: The chosen insulation material, often either mineral wool, foam, or beads, is then injected into the cavity through the drilled holes. The insulation material is usually blown in under pressure to ensure thorough coverage and to fill any gaps or voids within the cavity.
-
Distribution: As the insulation material is injected into the cavity, it spreads out evenly, filling the entire space between the walls. This creates a continuous layer of insulation that helps to prevent heat loss and improve the thermal efficiency of the property.
-
Completion: Once the cavity is fully insulated, the drilled holes are plugged and sealed with matching mortar or a suitable filler. This ensures that the exterior of the property remains intact and aesthetically pleasing.
-
Testing: After installation, the technician may conduct a final inspection or test to ensure that the cavity wall insulation has been installed correctly and is performing as expected.
-
